"The only way around the dishonor of rape, or adultery in the eyes of Afghans, is to marry her attacker. This will, in the eyes of some, give her child a family and restore her honor."
12 years in jail & get separated from your child, or marry your rapist and risk death. Can't possibly imagine having such a choice to make.
The article on CNN here says that she agreed to marrying him for the sake of her daughter, so that she could stay with her and take care of her.
It seems like the rapist himself is worried about her being killed by not his family but her own family for dishonour.
Do you think she made the right choice? What would you have done?
Clearly a deplorable justice system for sure..

Can't say anything. If i was in her position with all sort of regulations that apply there, maybe i'll do the same thing although it's impossible to do/determine the decision easily. Under any circumstances, a mother cannot be separated from her biological child, although it happens from something hurtful things. I think something that could be the encouragement of her life at this moment nothing isn't no other is her child. Focus of her life is only for her child who don't know anything. Maybe it had in her mind when faced with a very difficult choice.
Permalink Comment by Hibaa Ismael on November 23, 2011 at 10:22am It's just amazing how this woman is strong. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to do if I was in her shoes (probably the same for the sakeof the child). One thing is for sure, it would be a torture for her to see her rapist and remember how he hurt her! On the other hand even married to him she risks to be killed by her own family for dishonor (knowing that it's not her fault!!), such a dilemma for this young girl! it's such a shame to see that people still has those belief, and would kill for "honor" sake.

Permalink Comment by Yuriko ディーN on November 23, 2011 at 2:36pm What can I say… this makes us cry, outraged.. Where‘s justice for women? .. Afghanistan is the most dangerous place for women to live. And every time we hear the news like this, it tears our heart and soul. I don’t think anybody can judge what she chose. What choice does she have? Even death doesn’t bring her justice. I wish she could get education and be empowered someday. I hope her surroundings will be able to see things in different way. What can we do ? It’s not easy solution. To change the society, we need tremendous work and we have a long way to go. To show support, there’s a campaign for Afghan women at http://ch16.org/afghanwomen and you can also put like for 'Green Scarves for Solidarity with Afghan Women' Campaign on FB. Hope you can check them out.
Permalink Comment by Elliott Verreault on November 24, 2011 at 3:42am Thanks for that Yuriko. I agree with you all, it's truly saddening as she doesn't have much of a choice when it comes to the child. You'd hope the documentary would go public & put pressure from the international community towards change in Afghan law, but doing so without compromising her safety is definitely not easy. It's quite frustrating..
