A world of Consumerism and bankrupt hearts is there any wonder that poverty isn't yet history. Many of us unintentionally forget the poor when out shopping or eating out we all try to impress those around us with our materialistic belongings. There are many teens buying designer clothes when their family budget doesn't cover it, all this to fit in a society they may not even feel comfortable in.
You can look presentable at an affordable rate, how do we get the mind frame of these youth growing in a world that is pressuring them to buy buy buy to give more charity and not take notice of how others view their appearance?
How do we get the young to manage their money so that more needy people can be aided through the extra money they save?

Consumerism is at the root of our maladies. Even Govts are consumerist. Even Govts of poor countries are consumerist. They have no sense of priorities. They do not bother about the needs of the poor like sanitation, hunger, drinking water, health and pollution. They spend on armies, police, sport, aviation and palaces for the rulers. The comfort, security and entertainment of the rich and ruling class are more important than the survival needs of the underdog. Unless that mindset changes, there can be no solution for the problems that beset the poor. There are no easy solutions. Right education may help in the long term.

Perhaps they should be more encouraged to study abroad program to go to developing country to see not everybody can afford luxury. Many people don’t even have basic necessities. They need to see and learn about the other side of the world. It is really true education is the key. Once they have given the tool to see the interrelationship of the world, rest is up to them.
