Peace is My Language

Peace is My Language is an educational group based at LNU, Växjö, Sweden and partnered with IOH.

Peace is My Language utilizes GES events (Gather, Educate & Share) to reach out to new demographics, transforming more people into humanitarian actors.

As a strong advocate of the GES model, PIML encourages other organisations & associations to host their own GES events. Partnering with IOH, PIML broadcasts its activities on The Humanitarian Social Network. PIML endorses students of Peace & Development to create their own PIML associations and run their own GES events.

Sahro, your initiatives sound just wonderful! I'm sure every bit you can add will be extremely helpful, starting from the Somali Women and Peace Conference! Please keep us updated with how things are going!

Yuriko, I totally understand what you say. Bureaucracy is, most of the times, nothing but an enormous obstacle for this kind of initiatives, specially (and sadly) when they're related to peace issues. But your fundraising programmes sound amazing, and surely the little –or much!– you guys do can help make a difference! That's one of the things that brought us to build PIML, to be able to construct a whole network of peace and development studies-workers willing to share their knowledge. The more we are, the more we'll be able to do.

If you guys want to, you can subscribe to something called GES events. They're basically humanitarian events based on discussion and sharing. You may want to take a look at the webpage http://geswhathappens.com/GES_What_Happens.html. PIML is an organization that runs around GES events, and it's totally open to anyone to create his/her own!

That sounds great Sahro. Best wishes to you and best wishes for Mohamed, too.  Thanks for your initiation, Miguel. In our school, some of my students and I do fundraise to support different charitable organizations at least once a month.   Including myself, everybody is very busy with his or her own schedule and most students do not have extra money but we do what we can to do our parts. Currently we are doing food drive and fundraise for local food bank due to more demand for food supply this year in our area. Last month we offered silent auction to give donation for local women’s shelter. We also fundraise for worldwide organizations like Red Cross and UNICEF.  Also, we  participated peace crane project for UN and Origami U.S.A for 911 10th year anniversary.  There are always difficulties to deal with bureaucracy, not enough support from school.  There is no funding available for our events  from school.  Yet, we keep trying. Perhaps some people are facing same reality at your universities, too. It will be great to hear from you guys then.   I am hoping somebody can broadcast what we are doing in our school someday. (However, we are having final exams less than a month, so maybe now is not the time.)

This is a great initiative, thank you for putting it up. We are working on peace in Somalia from the scratch and we have created the 'Peace is in our hands' campaign. We want to involve more women in peace and conflict resolution processes. Between 29 Nov and 4 Dec we will be having the first Somali women and Peace Conference in Djibouti. I live and work in Somalia and would like to promote this woderful project.

Great initiative. Thanks for creating this group. We should invite other students of peace & development, conflict resolution, etc to create their own Peace Is My Language chapters in their universities and run their own GES.
