Nuclear Waste Management - Into Eternity (Documentary)

I haven't wrote on IOH for a while (I think my last comment was last summer) and used IOH pretty much only as a source of information, but I decided today to post that video, and plan on doing so every two weeks (2012 resolution;)), as I reorientated my research (Master Degree in Philosophy) last september on environnmental ethics. More specifficaly, on the question of nuclear technologies for energy purpuses. To be even more specific, I intend to cover the different arguments and concept of the dominant ideology today in environnmental ethics, per say the sustainable devellopment approach, to analyse the different arguments in favour and against nuclear technologies in modern philosophical thought. I am trying to stay objective, so I will not throw at you a list of arguments against or in favour of nuclear energy, but I wanted to use IOH to encourage discussions on various topics related to nuclear energy. I hope you will watch that documentary and will comment on it, as I am looking forward to a discussion on the matter.

The movie I want to share with you today is about nuclear waste management in Norway. No spoil, I will not say more and wait for your comments.

One thing though I want to comment right away, is about the precaution principle used to justify burying nuclear waste in the ground. I thought it was really strange that every options consider to deal with nuclear waste had been abandonned under precaution due to uncertainty, but they still (as if they forgot the precaution principle) decide to bury the waste despite the enormous potentiel risk for future generation. (I stop there, I want to hear your own opinion)

A little critic of the movie : I did not really like the producer methodology, as you can see right from the beginning he is againt nuclear (unfortunately, an objective point of view is more usefull to me in my research, a point of view which is too subjective tends to set aside key arguments). Still, I think this documentary raises a lot of important issues and ethical considerations.

Please enjoy!
