Wake Up Call is a peaceful, global action for positive change that takes place on 21st February, 2012 (21.2.12). It’s a simultaneous action by young people in more than 80 countries. On this day we hit the streets, the phones and also our keyboards to say:
This is a Wake Up Call!
The youth of Jordan have decided to send a Wake Up Call to the minister of energy and mineral resources to make a good use of the natural recourses already exist in Jordan and stop relying on importing energy.
They started a petition on Change.org to pursue green energy in Jordan. An email will be sent to the ministry with each signature. Help them deliver their message, sign the petition and share it on facebook and twitter.

Here’s the petitions text:
We are the youth of Jordan, uniting with the youth of the world, sending a loud and clear wake up call for the world leaders and decision makers to stand for our future.
Your Excellency, imagine millions of people, all over the world, uniting under one goal, one idea, one statement on the same day. Imagine a peaceful, collaborative movement for global change. Imagine governments, corporations, communities and individuals hearing one message:
"This is a Wake Up Call"
We, Jordan’s youth, have recognized the pressing energy crisis as the most important emergency that must be tackled in Jordan. We believe that the government and private sectors must work in unison to tackle the ever increasing demand for energy using green and renewable resources. We applaud the recent project to supply the city of Tafila with solar panels to offset the energy demands of the city using renewable means. We believe that this must be a model for further projects supplying the less fortunate areas in Jordan.
Jordan’s reliance on imports for 96% of its energy needs poses a challenge to overall development and the following factors encourage us to take a significant step toward clean energy:
1. Jordan is located within world solar belt (300-320 days of full sunshine).
2. Jordan is above world average wind speed (7 meters per second).
3. Jordan is among the highest engineers per capita ratios in the world (1 engineer per 83 inhabitants in 2020).
4. Jordan’s committed governance and pro-Investment (Renewable Energy law).
5. Groundbreaking Energy Strategy (estimated $1.4 – 2.1 billion investments in the sector).
6. Jordan’s geopolitical advantage (connected to MENA and Europe).
As a matter of fact, this is our Wake Up Call:
"We demand the minister of energy and mineral resources to start three major renewable energy projects (solar, wind, geothermal, etc) in the south, north and the middle of Jordan and they must be nationally and independently planned, supervised and worked for”.
We demand that these projects exploit Jordan’s natural renewable resources to produce a minimum of 500kWh in the south, north, and middle regions of Jordan, offsetting the demands of the less fortunate areas, towns, and villages.
We believe that a true partnership between the government and private sector is the ideal strategy to tackle the energy crisis in Jordan. We believe in the leadership of Jordan’s current government in its ability to lead by example, and guide us to energy independence. We believe that the government must expedite its efforts to complete the Regulations for the Renewable Energy and Power Saving Law of 2010.
Your Excellency: We are Jordan’s Youth. This is our Wake Up Call. And Your response is what we request.
